It's Toro Pride, Just Gotta Have It!
Welcome Back!
The Pride of South Laredo has opened its doors once again for a successful school year! I would like to welcome each and every one of you to Dr. Cigarroa High School, where students Learn for Life!
Apart from the festive emotions of starting a new school year, I would like to emphasize the two important topics in our student code of conduct: 1. Attendance and 2. Dress Code.
- Student Attendance is vital to the learning of objectives in all courses. Every day is a learning day, and I expect for students to take full advantage of the instructional time that is offered in our classrooms. CHS will strictly adhere to the 90% Compulsory Attendace Law found in the Texas Education Code Section 25.085. The bell schedule has been posted on our homepage to better serve our students and parents.
- The Dress Code will be enforced daily. I strongly emphasize the requirement of students to follow the standardized dress code. CHS will strictly adhere to the dress code. Failure to comply will result in consequences, as per the student code of conduct.
I would like to welcome Mrs. Cassandra Mendoza to the CHS Administrative Team. Mrs. Mendoza is no stranger to CHS as she served in the capacity of a teacher in the ELA department. I look forward to working with our administrative team this year as we move our instructional leadership roles to a higher level.
We just started the school year, and many students have already begun their involvmenet in extra-curricular activities, such as Athletics, Cheer, JROTC, Band, Orchestra, and several student organizations. I congratulate our students and their coaches/sponsors for their commitment and dedication in representing our school. In fact, I invite all our CHS students to join at least one organization and take ownership on what makes CHS a first-rate school!
A big thank you and sincere appreciation is extended to our HSTW Transition Team and Senior Class for hosting the Freshmen Orientation. Way to go! As we continue with or school reform initiatives on campus, I would like to challenge all students to uphold the expectations of literacy in all your classes. Reading and writing are very important skills, and it drives the comprehension and critical thinking skills we use every day.
In closing, I highly encourage you to be a part of Cigarroa High School. You will find that we have the best teachers that care for and support our students in their endeavors. Our teachers maximize every opportunity to incorporate rigor and relevance in their daily lessons.
We keep our focus on student learning! It is what we love to do every day!
Have a great school year!
