Tree Lighting

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas at LISD! LISD welcomed the holiday season with its annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony on Wednesday, December 4, at the LISD Performing Arts Center courtyard. Along with the Christmas tree lighting, area families, business, community organizations, clubs and school groups joined the district in its holiday celebration while enjoying live musical performances by talented LISD school cheerleaders, dance teams, bands, mariachi, and choir groups.

The evening started with the LISD Elementary School choir doing their rendition of classic Christmas carols followed by performances from the Martin, Nixon and Cigarroa High School, and Christen, Lamar, Cigarroa, and Memorial Middle School Cheer Squads in the PAC foyer.

Inside the PAC Auditorium, the Christmas spirit continued with wonderful performances by the Martin, Nixon, and Cigarroa High School bands and drill teams. The Cigarroa High School Mariachi Band also performed several numbers including a holiday favorite Feliz Navidad. And of course, Santa Claus made a special appearance for the children. Santa Claus entertained the audience by asking the children if they were good this year and what they wanted for Christmas.

The evening concluded with the lighting of the 41-foot beautifully decorated Christmas Tree in the LISD PAC courtyard. The 41-foot-tall tree is decorated with 28 personally handcrafted elementary and secondary school ornaments, hundreds of yule lights, and a bright star lighting the way to the North Pole.

Lighting this year’s Christmas Tree were Leyendecker Elementary School students Sergio Ivan Rodriguez and Lunah Rodriguez, Heights Elementary School students Emily Morales and Anthony Morales, and Zachry Elementary School students Frank De La Cerda and Brianna De La Cerda, along with LISD Superintendent Dr. Sylvia Rios, LISD Board Members and Santa Claus, while the Martin, Nixon, and Cigarroa High School bands added to the holiday cheer by playing their schools fight song.

The Laredo Independent School District wishes to thank all of the participants who made the annual Tree Lighting Ceremony a successful event.
