Laredo Independent School District hosted the 2025-26 joint Military Ball for JROTC cadets from Martin, Nixon and Cigarroa High School Battalions at the LISD PAC in the Dr. Marcus Nelson Conference Room. The cadets came together for an unforgettable evening that celebrated the dedication, service, and achievements of the cadets.
The cadets, who exchanged their camouflage uniforms for JRTOC dress uniforms and gowns, led the formal event that focused on military traditions and proper military protocols. The evening commenced with a formal receiving line, where cadets, instructors, and distinguished guests exchanged greetings.
The ceremony continued with the Presentation of Colors by the Cigarroa High School Color Guard followed by the National Anthem, invocation, posting of colors and Army song. Serving as color guards were Cigarroa High Schools Jesus Villapando (right rifle) Carlos Lopez (US Flag) Paulo Herrera (Texas Flag), Hector Bernal (Army Flag) and Damiean Bernal (Texas Guard). The traditional formal toast to the President of the United States, U.S Army, Corps of Cadets, fallen Comrades, and to all the Ladies in attendance added to a memorable night.
The cadets then remembered the Prisoners of War and those still Missing in Action with a solemn and symbolic Missing Man Table presentation featuring a white cloth, single red rose, yellow ribbon, candle, lemon, and Bible. The Missing Man Table presentation was conducted by Cigarroa High School cadets Col. Carlos Lopez-Army, LTC. Hector Bernal-Navy, CPT Paulo Herrera-Marines, and 1SG Jesus Villalpando-Air Force.
Following the formal proceedings, cadets, instructors, LISD board members, and special guest enjoyed a scrumptious meal. After dinner the biggest highlight of the evening was when senior cadets from Martin, Nixon and Cigarroa High Schools were celebrated as they walked through an arch of sabers signaling their transition to the next chapter of their lives.
The evening continued with the crowning of the military ball court, and kings and queens for each high school. The night quickly shifted to a lively celebration, with cadets enjoying music, laughter and camaraderie, and taking to the dance floor to show off some dancing skills.
