Today the Texas Education Agency officially announced that Laredo ISD has earned two A’s. The annual ratings show that LISD earned an A in Academic Accountability with a district score of 90. Overall campus ratings for LISD’s 28 schools include 18 A’s and 10 B’s. No LISD campus earned a C or D. LISD also earned an A in finance through their Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas (FIRST) rating.

Dear Toro Community,

As I am preparing to begin a new chapter in my professional journey, I want to take a moment to express my sincere gratitude to each of you. Serving alongside you at Cigarroa High School has been one of the greatest honors of my career, and leaving this remarkable school community is not easy. What makes this transition even more meaningful is that I have been blessed to serve this campus in three different roles throughout my career—as a Teacher/Coach, Assistant Principal, and most recently as El Toro Grande.

Throughout my time here, I have witnessed firsthand the dedication, passion, and resilience that define our faculty and staff. Together, we have navigated challenges, celebrated successes, embraced change, and remained committed to the students entrusted to our care. Through it all, you have continually demonstrated what it means to put students at the center of every decision. Somos Toros!

As I move into my new position as LISD Director of Bilingual Education, I do so with complete confidence in the future of this school. The strength of this campus has never been found in any one individual; it resides in the collective commitment, talent, and heart of the people who serve here every day. I know you will continue to build upon the traditions of excellence that make this school such a special place. We are “The Pride of South Laredo!”

Thank you for your professionalism, your friendship, and your unwavering dedication to our students. You have challenged me to grow as a leader and inspired me to be better each day. For that, I will always be grateful.

Congratulations to Cigarroa High School's Nery Briones for being named LISD's May Student of the Month. The LISD Student of the Month is sponsored by Laredo Federal Credit Union, Chick-Fil-A Marketplace on Bob Bullock, and Laredo Orthodontics.

Congratulations to Ms. Monica Martinez Hamilton Cigarroa High School Certified Interpreter for being named the LISD 2026 Instructional Support ParaProfessional of the Year.

Checkmate! LISD’s named its top chess players after a fierce competition this past Saturday at the LISD PAC in the Dr. Marcus Nelson Conference Center. The LISD Fine Arts Department hosted an All-Star Chess Tournament for the district’s All-Star chess players. The top 10 winners were recognized with either a trophy or medal for their accomplishments.

Laredo ISD recognized its Elementary and Secondary Teacher of the Year and Clerical and Instructional Paraprofessional of the Year nominees during the district’s Employee of the Year Banquet which was held at the Dr. Marcus Nelson Conference Center.

Our CIS students had a wonderful time celebrating Children’s Day! 🎉 They enjoyed cereal, chocolate milk, fresh fruit, and lots of fun through interactive board games and activities. 🍎🥣 This special celebration gave our students a well-deserved break from the daily pressures of academics and responsibilities, creating space to support their social-emotional well-being. It was an opportunity to reconnect with the joy of childhood, build resilience, spark creativity, and strengthen their sense of belonging within our school community. 🎉 Shoutout to our amazing English Language Arts teacher, Ms. Mayela Villarreal, for creating an immersive and highly engaging learning experience for our students! 📚🕶️✨ By integrating Class Virtual Reality headsets into instruction, students were able to step into the island setting of Lord of the Flies and experience the novel in a whole new way.
